Day 1 at CommunicAsia Singapore – Commscope+Argus
I am over here in Singapore this week attending the CommunicAsia show at the Sands Convention Center. Many of the usual suspects are here. Nokia has shown up for the first time in several years in force while Powerwave was absent. Both Chinese OEMs Huawei and ZTE are here as well as Ericsson but NSN and Alcatel-Lucent are also absent. The major news within the infrastructure sector is the acquisition of Argus Technologies (Australia) by Commscope. We think that Commscope wanted to shore up its position in Australia with Telstra but not sure what else they are getting. Potentially a broader product line but there is a fair amount of overlap as well. We expect that Commscope will keep the Argus brand, just the like Andrew brand was kept.

Do you have any comments on the new all-outdoor microwave radio from Huawei? Is it displayed in Singapore?

Hi, Huawei may have had the product at the show but it may have been in the VIP area which was not open to anyone other than mobile operator clients. Do you have a link on this product? I know Huawei has been working on their own ODUs for traditional split mount. They have not yet released all of the frequency bands yet. I am doubtful they have their own designed FODU at this point in time vs. reselling someone else’s like REMEC.
